His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined educators and students in celebrating the 24th Teachers' Day and 100 years of formal education in a ceremony held at the International Convention Centre.

Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince Wakeel.

In a titah His Majesty called on the Ministry of Education (MoE) to address the strengths and weaknesses of the National Education System for the 21st Century or SPN21.

Thailand education officials visit Brunei vocational school SVNR

THE principal of Vocational Nakhoda Ragam School (SVNR) looks forward to a collaboration between the school and Thailand’s Ministry of Education following the visit by a delegation from the ministry.

“I hope for a collaboration with them for the vocational school,” Pg Hjh Hamidah Pg Hj Hidup told The Brunei Times during the delegation’s visit to the vocational school.

Pg Hjh Hamidah said if a collaboration was established, teachers of SVNR could learn more and go through further training to further develop their communication skills.

She said that with the cooperation, SVNR could further develop its curriculum.

The delegation led by Permanent Secretary of Thailand’s Ministry of Education Dr Suthasri Wongsamarn toured the school’s facilities, and were given a briefing of the school‘s programmes and history.

Pg Hjh Hamidah Pg Hj Hidup led the tour to showcase what the school has to offer, including its three programmes: Built Environment and Technology, Electrical and Electronic and General Studies.

The delegation took a look inside the workshops under the three programmes to see the students’ work, meet the teachers of the departments and observe the students working on their projects.

The delegation visited the workshops for bricklaying, painting, plumbing, electrical and electronic, carpentry and studios. – Abdul Aziz Ismail
